Rowing Heads to Vegas this Weekend for the Pac-12 Invitational

Apr 9, 2021

HENDERSON, Nev. – The No. 19-ranked Washington State rowing team heads backdown to Lake Las Vegas this weekend looking to hit it big at the Pac-12 Invitational. The two-day regatta gets underway this Saturday, April 10, in Henderson, Nevada and will conclude this Sunday, April 11. A total of three races will be ran each day at the Pac-12 Invitational.

Washington State returns to Lake Las Vegas for the second time this spring, as the Cougars trek back to where they began the 2021 spring season back against No. 1-ranked Washington on March 6. WSU will look to continue to ride its wave of momentum going into the Pac-12 Invitational, as the Cougars have won back-to-back regattas No. 20 Oregon State and Gonzaga.

The pair of victories have helped the Cougs return to the Pocock/CRCA poll, presented by US Rowing, as WSU checked in at No. 19 this week's poll.

No. 19 Washington State will be one of five ranked teams at this weekend's Pac-12 Invitational, as the Cougars will be joined by No. 1 Washington, No. 5 California, No. 8 Alabama, and No. 20 Oregon State. Southern Cal and San Diego, both of whom received votes in this week's Pocock/CRCA poll, round out this weekend's field at Lake Las Vegas.

WSU head coach Jane LaRivere is looking forward to this weekend's challenge at the Pac-12 Invitational.

"We're really looking forward to heading back down to Las Vegas to races against some really great competition this weekend," said the Cougar head coach. "This is the first time in my memory that we've gotten most of the Pac-12 schools together (at a regatta) before the Pac-12 Championship. I think it's going to be great weekend. It's sort of a risk-free regatta in a lot of ways, because we will see most of these teams again at the Pac-12 Championships. It will be great to get out there and compete.

The Cougs will take on Cal, USC and San Diego on Saturday, then compete against Oregon State, San Diego and Washington on Sunday.

WSU will race at the same time each day at the Pac-12 Invitational. The Cougars will compete in the first varsity 4+ race at 9:40 a.m. PT, then the second varsity 8+ race at 10:20 a.m. PT. Washington State concludes each day of the regatta with the first varsity 8+ race at 11 a.m. PT. Race times are subject to change based on weather.
