USC Baseball's Bats Stay Hot With 10-3 Win Over Dixie State

Apr 10, 2021

LOS ANGELES – The USC baseball team put up double-digit runs and hits for the second straight game on Saturday, beating Dixie State 10-3 to take the non-conference series.

A day after setting season highs with 14 runs on 16 hits, the Trojans posted 13 hits in Saturday's win, moving to 14-11 with the non-conference victory. The Trailblazers fall to 9-19 with the loss. USC will go for the sweep tomorrow.

Jamal O'Guinn had the big game at the plate in this one, driving in a career-best five runs and scoring twice on three hits. O'Guinn got the party started with a three-run homer in the first, marking the second straight game USC has hit a three-run bomb in the opening frame.

The Trojans added four more runs in the second, getting RBI singles from Ben Ramirez and Carson Wells, and a two-run double from O'Guinn. USC's 7-0 lead after two innings was more than enough, but Tyler Lozano added a solo-shot in the third and Clay Owens hit a two-run bomb in the fourth.

Chandler Champlain gave the Trojans another strong start, tossing 6.0 scoreless innings, giving up just three hits and one walk. The sophomore righty struck out a career-high 10 batters in the game. USC used three arms out of the bullpen, with Brian Gursky and Nate Clow each picking up scoreless innings.

Dixie State got on the board in the seventh after Champlain was pulled, scoring three runs in the inning thanks to a two-run double from Chase Rodriguez and a run-scoring single from Tanner Argyle.

USC used 15 position players on the day, getting hits from eight different players and RBI from five.
