Apr 11, 2021

CORVALLIS, Ore. - The Oregon State softball team fell, 2-1, to No. 6 Washington in the final game of their series, Sunday.

Washington started the game, scoring right from the very first inning. After reaching on an error, a Husky scored when her teammate hit a triple.

The Beavers answered, and tied the score, in the second inning. The Huskies walked three batters, sophomore Frankie Hammoude, redshirt-freshman Bailey McLaughlin, and junior Morgan Allen, to begin the bottom.

Sophomore Ashton Zeiher hit a single up the pocket between third base and shortstop to bat in the tying run.

Both the third and fourth innings saw just three batters each. Junior pitcher Mariah Mazon tallied two strikeouts in the fourth.

Washington gained the lead back in the top of the fifth with a home run.

Oregon State put two on base in the bottom of the same inning but the Huskies held off the Beavers, halting the possible tie.

Attempting to advance their lead, the Huskies put two pinch runners on base in the top of the 6th. Junior Missy Nunes, combined with sophomore Maia Rader and freshman Grace Messmer, caught both stealing to stop the runners.

Four OSU players made a connection with the ball in the final two innings but the Beavers were unable to score, giving the 2-1 win to No. 6 Washington.

Oregon State heads on the road to face UCLA in their next four-game conference series on April 16-18.
