Pair in Top 15, Ducks in Sixth at Western Intercollegiate
SANTA CRUZ, Calif. – Two Oregon players sit in the top 15 individually while the Ducks shot 6 over as a team to move them up a spot into sixth place at 18 over following round two of the Western Intercollegiate at Pasatiempo Golf Club.
Nate Stember turned in the low round of the day for Oregon, shooting a 1-under 69 to move him into a tie for 13th at 2 over while Tom Gueant is tied for 11th at 1 over following an even-par 70.
How It Happened: Stember's 1-under 69 was the only under par round of the day for the Ducks. He double bogeyed the par-4 second, but turned in a mostly steady round the rest of the way, making a birdie at four and an eagle at the par-5 ninth to make the turn at 1 under. Stember went birdie, bogey to start his back nine then made seven straight pars to close his day with an even-par 35 on the back nine.
Gueant fired a steady round for the second straight day, shooting an even-par 70 to remain 1 over for the tournament. He had an up-and-down front nine but still ended up shooting even par, making an eagle, birdie and three bogeys. He played a more steady back nine with just a birdie at 11 and a bogey at 13 to shoot even par coming in.
Owen Avrit joined Gueant with an even-par 70. He picked up an eagle at the par-5 ninth and made a pair of bogeys and 15 pars on his round to remain 5 over for the tournament and tied for 36th. Craig Ronne shot a 3-over 73 for the second straight day and is tied for 37th while Yuki Moriyama turned in the fifth and final counting score with a 4-over 74, putting him in a tie for 25th at 4 over for the week.
Greg Solhaug shot an even-par 70 competing as an individual to keep him at 3 over and tied for 18th. He made back-to-back bogeys to start the day but bounced back by going 2 under the rest of the way with three birdies and a bogey to get back to level-par.
