Ducks Finish Seventh at Western Intercollegiate

Apr 14, 2021

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. – Oregon wrapped up the Western Intercollegiate in seventh place following a round of 17 over on a tough scoring day in the final round Wednesday at Pasatiempo Golf Club. Greg Solhaug led the way for the Ducks competing as an individual, finishing tied for 15th at 4 over after shooting 1 over in the final round while Tom Gueant led the players in the lineup, placing tied for 23rd at 5 over.
How It Happened: Solhaug played as part of the afternoon wave and struggled on the back nine to start his day, getting to the turn at 5 over. He came roaring back on the front nine, shooting a bogey-free 4-under 31, highlighted by back-to-back birdies to end his day, finishing with a 1-over 71 to lead the way for the Ducks.
Owen Avrit and Craig Ronne each shot a 2-over 72 to tie for the best round of the day for the Ducks in the lineup. Avrit had a mostly steady day, with bogeys coming at six and eight before a birdie at the par-5 ninth put him 1 over at the turn. He made just a bogey at the par-4 11th and eight pars to shoot 1 over on the back nine.
Ronne made bogeys at three and four, but fought back to even at the turn following birdies at both par 5s on the front nine. He bogeyed 11 but picked up another shot on a par 5, this time at 13, to get back to even before bogeying 16 and 18 to finish 2 over.
Yuki Moriyama shot a 3-over 73 and was one of the four Ducks to finish tied for 26th, finishing 7 over. He made his lone birdie of the day at the par-4 17th after being 3 over to that point, but gave the shot right back with a bogey at 18 to end the week 7 over. Nate Stember was the final Oregon player to shoot 7 over for the week, closing with a 5-over 75 to also end the week tied for 26th.
Gueant shot a 5-over 75 in his final round but still ended up as the highest finisher among the six in the lineup despite that. He was 2 over for his day through 15 but made three straight bogeys to end the round.
