LOS ANGELES – The No. 8/6 UCLA women's tennis team took its regular-season series from No. 6/4 Pepperdine Wednesday, besting the Waves by a 5-2 score at Los Angeles Tennis Center.

The trio of Elysia Bolton, Abbey Forbes and Jada Hart earned a sweep of the top singles courts for the Bruins (16-3), but it was Annette Goulak who clinched the victory on Court 6. Lisa Zaar gave the Waves (15-3) life early in singles action, but they were unable to gain another point until the match was decided.

UCLA set the tone in doubles play, with Goulak and Vivian Wolff striking first on Court 2. The pair has now defeated three different Pepperdine tandems this season, this time notching a 6-3 result against Zaar and Taisiya Pachkaleva. Clinching the initial point was Bolton and Altick, a combination that had not hit the courts since Jan. 26, 2019. Bolton and Altick logged a 6-3 win of its own versus Ashley Lahey and Nikki Redelijk.

The Bruins collected four first sets, including one on Court 3, where No. 124 Bolton kept her foot on the gas en route to a 6-3, 6-3 triumph over Shiori Fukuda. Bolton, who has won both of her decisions with Fukuda this season, is 3-0 since returning to the singles lineup and 7-1 overall.

Zaar briefly cut Pepperdine's deficit in half with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Sasha Vagramov on Court 5.

Hart ensured her match with No. 21 Jessica Failla would not reach a third set, prevailing by 6-2, 6-4 score on Court 2 and extending UCLA's lead to 3-1. Failla had previously beaten Forbes and Hart, with her three-set win on March 10 proving to be the difference in a 4-3 result.

Goulak dashed any hopes of a Pepperdine comeback, rebounding from a slow start to her second set to defeat Redelijk by a 6-3, 6-4 score. Goulak has now sealed two UCLA wins. She is also 3-0 individually versus the Waves and 13-2 overall.

No. 7 Forbes was bettered by Lahey in the top court's first set, but bounced back for a 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 victory to improve her singles record to 16-1. Forbes is now 2-0 against Lahey, formerly the nation's No. 1 player by Oracle ITA.

In a back-and-forth final contest, Pachkaleva outlasted Wolff on Court 4, 4-6, 7-6(6), 1-0(3).

The Bruins will complete their regular season Friday, when No. 36/32 USC visits LATC for a conference edition of the crosstown rivalry. First serve is set for 1:30 p.m., PT.
