Yovan named to Golden Spikes watch list
EUGENE – USA Baseball unveiled the 2021 Golden Spikes Award midseason watch list today and Oregon designated hitter/infielder Kenyon Yovan is one of 45 players listed.
For Yovan, it is the second time he has been on the watch list for the nation's top amateur player from the high school and college ranks. He earned a spot on the 2019 list as a pitcher and now is a member as a hitter.
Yovan heads into today's game at Portland batting .321 with eight home runs and 24 RBI, while boasting a .565 on-base percentage and a .654 slugging percentage. Yovan is second in the Pac-12 in home runs per game (0.36) while ranking 28th in the nation. He also is in the top five in the conference in home runs (3rd), RBI (5th) and slugging percentage (5th).
Earlier this season, Yovan claimed a number of national honors as well as Pac-12 Conference Player of the Week for his performance in a four-game sweep of No. 7 UC Santa Barbara. He earned national player of the week honors from D1Baseball, Perfect Game and Collegiate Baseball while being named hitter of the week by the NCBWA.
