#28/25 ASU Set for Territorial Cup Matchup, Senior Day
TEMPE - No. 28/25 ranked Arizona State (14-6, 3-3 Pac-12) host this year's Territorial Cup matchup against in-state rival Arizona Saturday at the Whiteman Tennis Center for the final match of the regular season. First serves will commence at 2:00 p.m. MST. Saturday's match is senior day for four Sun Devils and will feature a pre-match ceremony at 1:50 p.m. in celebration of Andrea Bolla, Nathan Ponwith, Makey Rakotomalala and Tim Ruehl. ASU enters the final week of competition ranked 28th in the Oracle/ITA poll and 25th in the Tennis Channel rankings.
Last Time Out
The Sun Devils ended a three-match drought last Saturday with a 4-2 road win over Utah. The victory improved Ruehl's record to an impressive 9-3 as he defeated his opponent 7-5, 6-1 in two quick sets. Ruehl also boasts a 5-2 record in doubles competition with fellow senior Rakotomalala.
The 23rd-ranked Wildcats hold a 17-6 overall record on the season and are 4-2 in conference play. In their most recent matchup, Arizona held an early lead over Utah but were ultimately defeated 3-4 on the road last Sunday. The Wildcats' lineup features two ranked players in No. 23 Gustaf Strom and No. 85 Jonas Ziverts. In Sunday's loss against the Utes, Strom notched his 15th singles win on the season. Five of Strom's victories were against ranked opponents, including a 7-6(4), 3-6, 6-3 win over USC's No. 14 Riley Smith.
