Cal Earns Nine All-American Awards

FORT WORTH, Texas – California women's gymnastics earned nine Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association All-American Awards by six different gymnasts as the awards were announced on Friday evening following the conclusion of the NCAA Championship Semifinals.
Prior to the 2021 season, Cal had earned seven honors by five different gymnasts in program history. Kristen Smyth won Cal's only first team All-American honor in 1992 for her performance on vault. This season, Cal had four first team performances.  
Gymnasts earned first team honors by finishing in the top four in each session of the NCAA Championship semifinals. Gymnasts who finished in fifth through eighth place were honored with second team honors.
Nevaeh DeSouza led the way with four All-American recognitions as she was named first team on vault and earned second team honors on beam, floor and all-around. DeSouza took fourth place on the vault with a 9.8875 score. She finished in fifth on balance beam with a 9.9125 mark and sixth on floor with a 9.925. That combination of scores led DeSouza to an eighth-place finish in the all-around with a total mark of 39.525.
Maya Bordas and Alma Kuc earned first team honors on the uneven bars. Bordas was the winner of the first session with a mark of 9.95, while Kuc took fourth place with a 9.925 mark. Andi Li also earned second-team honors on uneven bars as the freshman finished in seventh place with a 9.8875 score.
Kyana George led three Bears in earning beam honors. The senior finished in a tie for second place with a mark of 9.925. DeSouza and Watterson also earned beam honors for identical 9.9125 scores, which placed the duo in a tie for fifth.
