Cougars Fall at No. 50 Washington, 4-1

SEATTLE, Wash. – No. 50 Washington captured three singles matches en route to a 4-1 victory over Washington State Friday afternoon at Bill Quillian Stadium on the UW campus.
The Huskies (14-6, 5-5 Pac-12) began the day by winning at the top two doubles spots to earn the opening point. The Cougars' (13-12, 4-6) No. 3 team of Pang Jittakoat and Fifa Kumhom came away with a 6-4 victory over Zoey Weil and Tara Chilton.
In singles play, Washington posted straight-set wins at No. 2, 3 and 4 to clinch the match. Jittakoat accounted for WSU's only singles win as she defeated Chilton, 6-0, 6-3 at No. 5.
With the team outcome decided, the two remaining matches were stopped. At No. 1, WSU's Michaela Bayerlova, ranked No. 82, was trailing No. 48 Vanessa Wong, 6-2, 6-5, while Cougar senior Melisa Ates was in a second-set tiebreaker after holding four match points, leading 6-3, 6-6 over Weil at No. 6.
The Cougars are next in action Sunday when they travel to Malibu, Calif. to face No. 4 Pepperdine. Match time is set for Noon.
