Stanford captures 2020 Pac-12 Men's Soccer title, sixth in last seven seasons

Apr 17, 2021

SAN FRANCISCO - With its 1-0 overtime victory over No. 6 Washington on Saturday, No. 8 Stanford captured the Pac-12 Men’s Soccer championship for the 2020 regular season staged during the winter/spring of 2021. This marks the sixth Pac-12 championship title for the Cardinal in the last seven seasons.

Needing a victory in both teams' regular-season finale to leapfrog Washington - the reigning Conference champion from 2019 - in the league standings, Stanford got the match- and title-clinching goal in the 97th minute as a free kick by Keegan Tingey was headed into the net by Zach Ryan.

The victory propelled the Cardinal to 7-2-1 in league play for an average of 2.2 points per game, edging the Huskies' 7-3-0 mark and 2.1 points per game to earn the league's automatic bid to the 2020 NCAA Men's Soccer Championship.

The Cardinal and Huskies, along with the rest of the Pac-12, now await selections and bracketing for the upcoming NCAA postseason. The Selection Show will take place Monday, April 19, with the entirety of the 36-team tournament to take place in Cary, N.C., and surrounding areas from April 29-May 17.

Stanford has won seven Pac-12 titles, and now looks to add to its recent postseason success having won three NCAA national titles in 2015, 2016 and 2017 and made four College Cup appearances in the past five events.
