Apr 19, 2021

INDIANAPOLIS -- The 2020-21 NCAA Women's Soccer Championship Selection Show announced that Sun Devil Soccer will compete in the NCAA tournament starting Wednesday, April 28, at noon ET (9 a.m. in Arizona) at Johnson Stadium on the campus of East Carolina University in Greenville, NC. Arizona State (8-5-2, 4-4-2) completed a historic regular season and continues to set new heights as the postseason berth is the first appearance for the program since 2014. It will face Siena (6-0-2, 4-0-1) in the first round and the winner will move on to the second round and face No. 9-seeded Duke.

"I'm super delighted for the players," said fourth-year head coach Graham Winkworth. "The amount of hard work that every player, member of staff, assistant coaches, the administration, the support staff is outstanding. The amount of people and the amount of hard work that has gone into the last 18 months to make today possible is incredible. I'm super thankful to everyone that has touched our program over the last 18 months."

"I want to give a special shout out to Chubby (Josie Chubb), Sugar (Shigeyoshi Shinohara) for the amount of work they've put in. Thank you to Ray Anderson, Don Bocchi, Natesh Rao, and Ken Landphere for all of the support they have provided, along with the rest of the administration as well. We're so thankful to work in this Sun Devil Family."

The team marched to their own drum, sticking to their style of soccer and the proof is in the Sun Devil Soccer resume. ASU went on a eight-game undefeated streak, including a perfect record through non-conference play. The Sun Devils are only the fourth team ever to defeat USC, Stanford, and UCLA in the same season. ASU also handed No. 1 seed UCLA its only loss this season.

"We've made this our lemonade season and we're going to continue to make this our lemonade season.. but for me, personally, being English, I am now going to go home and enjoy some tea and crumpets," said Winkworth.
