Busy Weekend on Tap for Track & Field

SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah track & field team will have a busy weekend on hand as it sends a group or runners to the famed Drake Relays while others stay relatively local competing in the Robison Invitational hosted by BYU.

STARTING BLOCK
Utah will send 10 runners to Des Moines, Iowa, for the 111th running of the Drake Relays this weekend as the group competes in the 4x100, 4x400, DMR and 4x800. Meanwhile, a larger contingent of 17 Utes will stay locally and compete at the BYU Robison Invitational in nearly a dozen events. Among those traveling to the famed Blue Oval for the Drake Relays, eight will be competing there for the first time as some of the country's top programs descend upon Drake Stadium.
 
WE BE RUNNIN'
Heading into this week's competition, Utah's 800m crew checks in at No. 13 in the nation according to the USTFCCCA #EventSquad Rankings while the 400m crew is 20th in the country.
 
LAST TIME OUT
The Women of Utah followed their record-breaking weekend at home with a great weekend at the Silver State Classic. Natalie Platil started the day off for Utah with a PR run in the 1500m race (4:43.69). Emma Earl and Annie Murdock each set new personal bests in the 800m with Earl crossing the finish line first at 2:16.64 while Murdock clocked in at 2:14.74. Running in just her second event this season, Rachel Whipple set a new 400m hurdle PR with a mark of 1:03.00.
