Bates, Plain Among 25 Candidates For Player Of The Year
OKLAHOMA CITY - Sis Bates and Gabbie Plain have each been named to the list of 25 candidates for the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award. This is the third straight year Washington has had multiple players on the list of 25 candidates. Bates and Plain are two of the five Pac-12 players to make the list this season.
For Bates, this is the third consecutive year she has been named among the 25 candidates for the Player of the Year award. This year, she leads the Pac-12 in hits, becoming the third Husky ever to reach the 300-hit mark in their career. She has 16 multi-hit games this year, going hitless just six times. Since the beginning of the 2019 season, Bates has hit .461 over 55 games, including a .434 mark this season.
This is the second year in a row that Plain has been on the list of 25 candidates for Player of the Year. The nation's leader in wins and strikeouts, Plain has a 0.93 ERA through 29 appearances. Her 23-0 record is not only the longest undefeated start in Washington history, but makes her the only pitcher in the nation with at least 20 wins and no losses. Plain has recorded 13 double-digit strikeout games this year and has eight shutouts, including a perfect game in the very first game of the 2021 season.
The watch list for the Collegiate Player of the Year award will be narrowed to ten players on May 5. The three finalists will be announced on May 19, with the winner of the award announced at the Women's College World Series.
