Boreman Records Fast Time In Steeplechase Return

Apr 23, 2021

EUGENE – Colorado track and field senior Madie Boreman made her long awaited return to form in the women's steeplechase Friday evening at the Oregon Relays.

The senior ran 9:48.09, just a second and a half off her time that she ran when she finished second at the NCAAs in 2017. In her first steeplechase since 2017, Boreman finished second behind CU alum Val Constien who ran 9:42.32. Boreman's time is fourth in the nation and an Olympic Trials qualifying mark for both women.

Eduardo Herrera led the men's team today as he won the men's 1,500 invitational in 3:43.32, the second-fastest time that he has run in his career. The women also showed well in the event with Rachel McArthur finishing second in 4:16.18 which is top-25 in the nation. Micaela Degenero also ran a top-25 time at 4:16.50 to finish third overall.

The other Buffs in competition at the Oregon Relays were Ethan Powell and Ryan Robinson in the men's 5,000, finishing fourth and ninth overall in 14:08.24 and 14:17.04, respectfully.

Also competing today were the combined events athletes in action at the Glenn Morris Multi at CSU. Avery McMullen led the CU-filled heptathlon with a finish at 5235, the 10th-best mark in school history after the javelin implement change in 1983. She was joined by Jada Green in second at 4981, Kara Lucyk in third at 4536, Elise Gillett in fourth at 4264 and Kylee Harr in fifth at 3557. Wyatt Rhoads competed in the men's decathlon and finished fourth with a score of 4457 despite posting three marks of zero points in the 110 hurdles, pole vault and 1,500.

Colorado has a lot of Buffs in action tomorrow at the LSU Alumni Gold for the sprints and hurdles, Oregon Relays and USATF Grand Prix for the distance athletes and the Jack Christiansen Invite for a mass amount of CU athletes at CSU.
