Cougs Sit in a Tie for Ninth after Day One at the Pac-12 Men's Golf Championship
SANTA ROSA, Calif. – The Washington State men's golf team sits in a three-way tie for ninth place after the first two rounds of play at the 2021 Pac-12 Men's Golf Championship on Monday, April 26. The Cougars go into Tuesday's third round with a team score of 736 (+16).
The Cougs shot 14-over par; 374 as a team in the first round of the Pac-12 Men's Golf Championship, then shaved 12 strokes off their score in the second round. WSU ended the first day of the tournament in a three-way tie for ninth place on the team leaderboard with UCLA and Utah.
Fifth-year senior Nicklaus Chiam led the way for Washington State on Monday, as the Singapore native finished his day at two-under par; 14. Chiam sits in a tie for 15th on the player leaderboard, as he carded one-under par; 71 in both the first and second rounds. The fifth-year senior collected three birdies in the first round, while he added four more birdies in the second round.
Graduate transfer Eric Hagen finished the second round by carding two-under par; 70. The Olympia, Washington native goes into the third round in a tie for 36th. Hagen was on fire on Monday afternoon, as he collected a team-best five birdies and posted an eagle on the fourth hole in the second round.
Redshirt junior Max Sekulic, sophomore Yuya Eguchi and freshman Jaden Cantafio all finished within three strokes of one another on Monday. Sekulic carded 149 (+5) in his first two rounds of play at the Pac-12 Men's Golf Championship, finishing the day in a tie for 46th. The Rycroft, Alberta native collected an eagle in the first round, as he carded two-under par on the 15th hole.
Eguchi finished one-stroke behind Sekulic, as the sophomore begins the third round in a tie for 53rd. Cantafio carded one-under par; 71 in the second round, as the freshman goes into play on Tuesday at seven-over par; 151. Freshman Preston Bebich collected an eagle in his first-ever round of play at the Pac-12 Men's Golf Championship. The Gig Harbor, Washington native shot two-under par on the 15th hole, as he sits in 71st on the player leaderboard after carding 14-over par; 158.
Arizona State sits in first place on the team leaderboard after the first two rounds of play at the Pac-12 Men's Golf Championship. The Sun Devils hold a one-stroke lead over Arizona going into Tuesday's third round, as ASU has carded 25-under par; 695. Arizona State's Ryggs Johnston holds a one-stroke advantage over Oregon's Yuki Moriyama after 36 holes of play, as Johnston has carded 11-under par; 133.
