SANTA ROSA, Calif. - No. 9 ARIZONA STATE and No. 16 ARIZONA seized early control through the opening 36 holes of the 2021 Pac-12 Men's Golf Championships at par-72, 6,785-yard Mayacama Golf Club on Monday.

The team lead alternated between the desert rivals much of Monday with the Sun Devils (25-under 695) eventually seizing a one-shot advantage over the Wildcats (24-under 696) after two rounds.

Prime scoring conditions greeted the teams in the morning with Arizona leading the first round at 16-under 344, followed closely by Arizona State at 14-under 346.

However, scoring rose (73.31 2nd vs. 72.72 1st) as cool winds and rare California rain came through in the afternoon round, with the Sun Devils navigating the conditions best to the tune of an 11-under 349 to take over the team lead.

ASU sophomore Ryggs Johnston carded rounds of 67-66 to hold the individual lead at the midway point at 11-under 133.

Round of the day went to OREGON freshman Yuki Moriyama, who opened with a 7-under 65 and followed with a 69 to close the first day one shot back of Johnston at 10-under 134. Moriyama's standout play helped the Ducks, which entered ranked No. 62 by Golfweek, reach the midpoint in third at 15-under 705 (355-350).
