Water Polo Named #5 Seed in MPSF Championship Tournament
TEMPE, ARIZ.--Arizona State water polo had a bye week to end the final week of the regular season before taking on hosting duties for the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation conference championship tournament. The Sun Devils secured the five seed for tournament play, which starts on Friday, April 30 at Mona Plummer Aquatic Center.
ASU's six other MPSF opponents each played last weekend, which was the deciding factor in seeding for the Sun Devils having finished their regular season a week prior. In the last of three games on Friday, ASU is slated to play #4 seeded California Golden Bears at 2:00 p.m. MST, who also holds a 6-6 record in conference play after winning both conference games against Indiana last weekend.
ASU faced the Golden Bears in their road opener and lost both games in Berkeley, but kept it close in the second of two games. In that game two, the Sun Devils held Cal to five goals, tying their lowest scoring game of the season. Headed into this weekend, California is ranked No. 4 in the Collegiate Water Polo Association Polls which is just one spot above Arizona State sitting at No. 5.
Game one of the tournament for the Sun Devils, as well as the other eight games will be viewable via an MPSF TV subscription. Fans are also able to attend, but will be limited to the remaining walk-up tickets 15 minutes prior to the scheduled start time at the gate.
