Tryon Selected By Super Bowl Champs In First Round
Washington's Joe Tryon was selected by Super Bowl Champion Tampa Bay with the final selection of the first round of the NFL Draft Thursday. The outside linebacker/defensive end from Renton, Wash., becomes the ninth Husky to go in the first round of the NFL Draft since 2011.
Tryon, who declared his intentions to forgo the 2020 season and enter the draft late last August, was named to the Phil Steele preseason All-America first team prior to that announcement. In 2019, he earned second-team All-Pac-12 after starting 12 of the Huskies' 13 games. He had a strong finish to that season, notching 10 tackles for loss over the last four games of the regular season.
In Tampa, Tryon will join three former Huskies who were part of the Super Bowl-winning season last year: defensive linemen Vita Vea and Benning Potoa'e and receiver/return specialist Jaydon Mickens.
The 2021 NFL Draft continues on Friday.
