Baseball Falls in First Game at Arizona
TUCSON – The Utah baseball team dropped its opening game to the Arizona Wildcats 11-1 at Hi Corbett Field on Friday night.
Utah had a tough time at the plate in the first game totaling four hits. Kai Roberts and Trey Clarkson both had two of those hits with doubles. Rykker Tom and Owen Mortensen each had singles in the game.
Mortensen got his first plate appearance of the season in the ninth and came up with a single. Clarkson then doubled to right field to put runners on second and third with one out in the ninth. Brock Rudy put the ball in play to score Mortensen from third.
Justin Kelly got the start for Utah. Arizona took an early lead scoring four runs in the first and never looked back.
Utah and Arizona will play game two of the series on Saturday at 7 p.m.
