Apr 30, 2021

LOS ANGELES – Washington's beach season came to a close today as the Huskies dropped a hard-fought 3-2 decision to Arizona State in the contender's bracket at the Pac-12 Championships. The Huskies had wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots, and the No. 3 and No. 4 matches both went to third sets, but Washington was unable to grab either one and ends the season with a 5-13 record.

The Dawgs will tie for seventh in the Pac-12 tourney. Senior Shayne McPherson had one last dual win for UW today, with junior partner Chloe Loreen, as the two finished with an excellent 13-5 dual record. The beat ASU's Carballo/Sweeney, 21-18, 21-19. McPherson finishes as the UW record-holder in dual wins with 57 and overall victories with 67.

Avie Niece and Natalie Robinson got the second point for the Huskies with a 21-19, 21-15 win at No. 2 over ASU's Fitzgerald and Anderson. The two went 6-7 at the No. 2 spot together this season.

The match was 2-2 and coming down to a third set at No. 4, where Hannah Yerex and Ashley Shook had won the first set, 21-17, over Bordis/Plaster, but lost the second, 14-21. The Huskies couldn't stop ASU's momentum in the third, falling 15-3.

Another three setter at No. 3 went to the Sun Devils as Waters/Flood of ASU turned back Scarlett Dahl and Kyra Petersen, 21-16, 18-21, 15-10. Cassidy Schilling and Callie Weber fell at No. 5, 22-20, 21-17, to Weintraub/Ames in the first match to finish.
