TUCSON - Returning to action for the first time in nearly three weeks, the California softball team fell to No. 9 Arizona, 9-0, Saturday night from Hillenbrand Memorial Stadium.
The Golden Bears fell to 16-13, 3-7 on the year.
A walk-off grand slam ended the game in five innings, part of a five-run fifth for the Wildcats.
Prior to the grand slam, Arizona started the scoring in the first after loading the bases and tallying the night's first run on a fielder's choice.
The Wildcats added to their lead in the bottom of the third with a one-out, two-run home run to increase their lead to 3-0. Arizona notched another solo shot in the fourth to make it 4-0.
In the bottom of the fifth, Arizona padded its lead with an RBI single.
Alexis Bishop and Mikayla Coelho doubled for the Bears, and Coelho paced the Bears with two hits. Sophie Medellin, Lauren Espalin and Sabrina Nunez each singled.
The Bears put runners in scoring position multiple times during the five-inning affair, but couldn't get the big hit, leaving eight runners on base.
Cal concludes the brief two-game series with the Wildcats on Sunday at noon.
