GARDEN CITY, Kan. - Bruin alum Lilia Vu recorded the first victory of her professional career on Sunday, winning the Symetra Tour's Garden City Charity Classic at Buffalo Dunes.
Vu shot rounds of 3-under 69, 2-under 70 and 3-under 69 to post a 54-hole total of 8-under 208 to beat her former Bruin teammate Beth Wu by one shot (69-69-71-209, -7).
Vu, the winner of a school-record eight tournaments at UCLA, has shined so far in her third season on the Symetra Tour. Her first April event, the Casino Del Sol Golf Classic, saw her tie for fourth. She then tied for eighth at the Copper Rock Championship before winning this week, having shot a combined 23-under par in her last three events. Vu vaults up to second in the season-long Volvik Race for the Card standings, with the Top 10 players earning LPGA Tour memberships.
Wu, a two-time winner at UCLA, was playing in just her fifth Symetra Tour event, posting her best career finish.
