NCAA Tournament Opens with LSU

STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford men's tennis will be making its 13th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance when first round competition gets underway this weekend.
 
Stanford (10-5, 6-1 Pac-12) will travel to Charlottesville, Virginia for a first round matchup with LSU (12-12, 4-8 SEC) on May 7 or 8. Virginia (21-2, 12-0 ACC) hosts the regional, and will face Fairleigh Dickinson (6-4, 4-0 NEC) in the day's opening match. The winners meet in the second round on May 8 or May 9.
 
The NCAA Tournament berth is the 41st in program history for Stanford, which has won the national championship in 17 of its appearances. The Cardinal won its 18th conference championship this season, and its first since 2015. The Pac-12 title was Stanford's first outright championship since 2003.
 
Four of the Cardinal's wins have come against ranked opponents, as the team enters the national postseason ranked No. 23 in the computer polls and No. 19 in the coaches' poll.
 
NCAA first and second round competition features four teams playing in a single-elimination format. The 16 regional winners will advance to the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida, where the eight teams will compete for the national championship May 17-22.
