Baseball Takes Break from Conference Play by Hosting Northern Colorado

May 5, 2021

Game 37-39: Utah (10-26, 5-16) vs. Northern Colorado (11-26, 7-17)
Saturday, May 8-Monday, May 10
6 p.m. | 4 p.m. | 12 p.m.
Lindquist Field | Ogden, Utah

FIRST PITCH
Utah baseball returns to Utah to host Northern Colorado for a non-conference series.

Utah comes into the series with a 10-26 record and Northern Colorado comes in with an 11-26 record. After breaking from conference play for a weekend, they'll both dive back into the final stretch of the season next weekend with more conference games.

The Utes and the Bears will be playing at Lindquist Field in Ogden, Utah.

HAVOC ON THE BASES
When Jaylon McLaughlin gets on base, he's always a threat to get a steal. He's second in the Pac-12 with 18 stolen bases going 18-21 on the season.

McLaughlin leads the team with 25 runs and in Utah's 10 wins, he has scored a run in nine of them.

He has currently scored a run in seven of the last nine games.

WATSON STEPS UP ON SUNDAY's
David Watson has helped Utah get three wins in conference play pitching on Sundays.

His latest against Arizona State, he went 6.3 innings only allowing two runs on four hits. He struck out six Sun Devils.

After getting a win against Cal, he pitched his longest outing of the season against Oregon State going 7.2 innings and only giving up three runs on five hits.

It was Utah's first win ever in Corvallis.

UTAH TO ALLOW LIMITED NUMBER OF SPECTATORS
Utah Athletics is now able to permit a limited number of spectators to attend home athletics competitions at outdoor venues, in accordance with Pac-12 policy and local and University public health and safety protocols.

A limited number of family and friends of student-athletes and coaches have been able to attend Utah Athletics events for the past two months, and that scope will now expand to allow the public to attend events up to a limited capacity at outdoor venues based on each facility's design.

RELOCATING NINE HOME GAMES
Utah's baseball program will relocate nine home games of the 2021 season to Lindquist Field in Ogden, beginning with the May 8-10 series against Northern Colorado. After this weekend's home series against Arizona State, Friday-Sunday, the only Utah baseball game to be played at Smith's Ballpark will be the May 12 matchup with Utah Valley.

The move became necessary because of the primary tenancy of the Salt Lake Bees at Smith's Ballpark, and the difficulty in scheduling games at optimal times on the same day due to new COVID-19 protocols introduced for Minor League Baseball organizations. The customary turnaround time between a Utah baseball game and a Salt Lake Bees game has increased to allow for proper cleaning and sanitizing of facilities, making it more difficult to play two games in one day after the Bees begin their 2021 home season on May 6.

The Utes' first game at Lindquist Field will be Saturday, May 8, against Northern Colorado. In addition to the Northern Colorado series, Utah will have two more series in Ogden against Oregon (May 14-16) and USC (May 27-29).

UP NEXT
Utah be back at Smith's Ballpark to host Utah Valley for a midweek game on Wednesday, May 12.
