USC's Matthew Katnik was named Pac-12 Men's Field Athlete of the Week and Isaiah Jewett was named Pac-12 Men's Track Athlete of the Week for the week of April 26-May 2, it was announced by the Conference today (May 5).
Matthew Katnik won the USC-UCLA Dual Meet shot put competition on May 2 with a school-record throw of 68-1.50 (20.76m). His final three marks were all a foot-and-a-half or more farther than his previous career best. He now ranks second on the NCAA descending order list and his teammate McKay Johnson, who finished second at the Dual Meet with a PR of 66-2.50, ranks fifth nationally. Katnik then finished second by an inch to Johnson in the Dual Meet discus throw with a PR of 173-1. He helped USC defeat UCLA 114-42, the Trojans most points in the Dual Meet since 1950.
Isaiah Jewett won the men's 800m race at the USC-UCLA Dual Meet ith a PR and meet-record time of 1:45.80. The time is the NCAA leader and improved his third-place standing on USC's all-time list. He broke the previous meet record of 1:46.47 set by Rayfield Beaton of USC in 1978, one of the longest standing Dual Meet records. He then came back to anchor USC's winning 4x400m relay which won with a time of 3:06.19.
