USC's Shane Ffrench, Kaito Onishi Earn All-Pac-12 Honors

May 6, 2021
Freshman Shane Ffrench earned 2021 Pac-12 All-Newcomer honors.

Freshman Shane Ffrench was named to the All-Pac-12 Newcomer Team while senior Kaito Onishi earned first team notice, the conference announced today.

Ffrench stepped into USC's lineup from the start of the season and quickly became a fixture and regular contributor, starting all eight tournaments in 2021

Ffrench is second on the team in stroke average (72.48) and provided counting rounds in all but two of his 25 outings this year. He had 11 rounds of par or better this season with a season-best 69 and was among USC's top 2 finishers four times this year.

He posted a season-best tie for fifth at the Amer Ari Invitational at 7-under 209 (70-69-70) and registered four other top 26 results, including a tie for 20th at the Pac-12 Championships at 4-under 284 (70-73-70-71).

"Congratulations to Shane and Kaito," USC Coach J.T. Higgins said. "Both had outstanding seasons and are worthy of these honors.

"I'm so excited for Shane and his future here at USC. He has only scratched the surface of his capabilities and his best golf is yet to come."

Onishi leads USC with a team-best 71.68 stroke average and has a pair of top 10 finishes, highlighted by his tie for fourth at The Goodwin at 7-under 203 (68-69-66). He also tied for ninth at the N.I.T.
