May 7, 2021

CORVALLIS, Ore. -- The No. 10 Sun Devil Softball team (31-13, 11-8) fell in the Pac-12 Conference series opener against Oregon State (17-23, 4-15) on Friday evening. True freshman Allison Royalty pitched her sixth complete game in what descended into a pitchers' duel that resulted in an Arizona State 1-0 loss. The series reconvenes Saturday at 1 p.m. MST on the OSU Live Stream.

In her 18th collegiate start, Royalty notched zero earned runs, two strikeouts, four hits and two walks. The Texas native faced 26 batters, including opposing pitcher, Mariah Mazon.

The ASU defense kept the game within one and had its shining moment of the night in the bottom of the third innig as Bella Loomis and Denae Chatman connected for a double play.

The offense couldn't break the Beaver dam, but saw a small opportunity late in the seventh inning as Savannah Price and Bella Loomis stood in scoring position on second and third with two outs. One more groundout and OSU stole the first conference win of the series.

UP NEXT: Arizona State continues its three-game series at Oregon State tomorrow, Saturday, May 8. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. MST on the OSU Live Stream 4.
