May 8, 2021

CORVALLIS, Ore. - The Oregon State softball team fell, 5-2, in game two against No. 10 Arizona State, Saturday.

After notching three straight outs, including two strikeouts from senior pitcher Nerissa Eason, to start the game, the Beavers earned the first hit in the bottom of the first inning.

Junior Missy Nunes hit a line drive that dropped in the hole of right field to make it to first but Oregon State was unable to capitalize and left her on base.

In the second inning, OSU grabbed another three outs in three batters and a second hit. Freshman Grace Messmer tallied her first, of three singles, to get on base but she ended the inning on the same base.

The Sun Devils got on base for the first time in the third inning but Eason and the Oregon State defense were able to hold off their advance and leave two stranded.

The Beavers scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning. Pinch-running for sophomore Frankie Hammoude, freshman Jade Soto crossed the plate as freshman Charity Sevaaetasi hit OSU's third single. Messmer followed with her second single of the day but the Beavers were unable to get a second run.

Arizona State answered with four runs from four hits in the top of the fifth.

Freshman Madison Simon opened the bottom of the inning with a single to left field but the Beavers were unable to bring her in and score another run in the fifth.

Going three-up, three-down to keep the Sun Devils off base, OSU tallied two singles from Messmer and freshman Xiao Gin in the sixth inning. After ASU switched pitchers, Simon hit a sac fly to bring in Messmer for the Beavers' second run.

The Sun Devils added a run in the top of the seventh and the Beavers were unable to answer.

Oregon State will return with their final game against Arizona State tomorrow, Sunday (May 9), at 12 p.m. Before the first pitch, OSU will honor its seniors.
