SEATTLE – Sis Bates was drafted in the Athletes Unlimited Softball Draft today. Bates will be the third Husky set to compete in the 2021 Athletes Unlimited season, along with Victoria Hayward and Taran Alvelo. Husky alum and current assistant coach Whitney Jones has also worked with Athletes Unlimited as a facilitator.
Bates adds this to her plethora of accolades this season, which include being a finalist for the Senior CLASS Award and one of ten candindates for the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award. Bates is the third Husky ever with 300 career hits and became the first player in the Pac-12 to reach 50 runs scored last weekend. Bates also holds the Husky all-time record for triples.
A two-time First Team All-American and two-time Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year, Bates has played every inning of every game at shortstop for the Huskies this season. Bates is one of three players in the Pac-12 hitting over .400 this year and is second in the Pac-12 in stolen bases, runs scored, and triples.
Athletes Unlimited is a player-centered sports organization, with teams being re-drafted by player captains every week and a scoring system for both teams and players. Bates' selection means that she will be added to the player pool for the upcoming season, set to run from late August through the end of September.
