TUCSON, Ariz. — Arizona Gymnastics head coach John Court announced today that the GymCats will add Elizabeth LaRusso to the 2021 signing class.
Elizabeth LaRusso will join Alysen Fears and Emily Mueller on campus in the Fall to compete with the GymCats.
"We are thrilled to welcome Elizabeth and her family into our program," Court said. "Liz made the decision to reclassify and join us a year early which benefits both of us. She has specific skill sets that can be added to our events right away and I have been very impressed with her communication skills over the past year. Her family, academics, and gymnastics are a priority for her, and we look forward to her having an excellent student-athlete experience at Arizona. Liz along with fellow 2021 signees Alysen Fears and Emily Mueller will be competing this weekend at the Junior Olympic National Championship in Florida."
LaRusso joins the Wildcats from Odyssey Charter High School in Las Vegas. She trained at Gymcats Gymnastics in Las Vegas for two years under coaches Cassie Rice and Jill Preston and at Vitaly Scherbo School of Gymnastics for 10 years.
"I chose the University of Arizona because of the beautiful campus and facilities, amazing gymnastics team and program, and great academic opportunities," LaRusso said. "As soon as I stepped on campus, I knew Arizona was where I wanted to be."
LaRusso was a three-time JO national qualifier in 2018, 2019, and 2021 and helped her team win the 2021 Level 10 Nevada State Championship. She was an individual Nevada State Champion on floor and a silver medalist on vault, bars, and the all-around in 2021. LaRusso was also a 2021 Region 1 Bars Silver Medalist.
