Eikeng Wins Pac-12 Athlete Of The Week

May 12, 2021

SEATTLE - Husky sophomore Ida Eikeng wrapped up the regular season with some momentum, as she won her two events at the Ken Shannon Invitational and was named Pac-12 Women's Field Athlete of the Week today by the conference office. Eikeng and the rest of the Huskies are heading to the Pac-12 Championships at USC this Friday through Sunday.

The Norwegian native is the first Husky to win a Pac-12 weekly honor this season. She will be competing in the heptathlon at the Pac-12 Championships starting on Friday. Tuning up for the upcoming multi at last Friday's Ken Shannon Invitational, Eikeng won both the javelin and the shot put with season-bests.

Eikeng continues to show that apart from the heptathlon, her skill in the javelin on its own could content for a Pac-12 title. She moved to No. 3 in school history and 19th in the NCAA this season with a PR of 171-1 (52.16) which is also third in the Pac-12 this season.

The sophomore also had a season-best mark of 44-8 ¼ (13.62) to win the shot put, just four inches off her lifetime-best that came unattached in 2019.
