SIMPSONVILLE, Ky. - Sophomore Emma Spitz won individual medalist honors at the NCAA Louisville Regional to help the Bruins advance to the upcoming NCAA Championships.
UCLA finished in a tie for second (+11, 875), shooting a 1-over 289 on Wednesday at the University of Louisville Golf Club and will be one of six teams from the Louisville Regional advancing to Scottsdale, Ariz. and Grayhawk Golf Club (May 21-26).
Spitz followed up her 5-under 67 on Tuesday with a 4-under 68 on Wednesday to finish at 8-under 208, winning by five strokes. After a bogey and seven pars on her first eight holes, Spitz jump-started her round with an eagle on the par-5 ninth. She added birdies on the par-4 10th and par-3 12th and 16th holes, with no additional bogeys to win by a handful.
The victory for Spitz marked the third year in a row a Bruin has been the medalist at Regionals. Patty Tavatanakit won in 2018 and 2019, with her and Spitz finishing at 8-under 208 in each of those three seasons. UCLA has had nine winners of an NCAA Regional.
Sophomore Emilie Paltrinieri tied for 12th (+1, 217) thanks to a 1-under 71 in her final round. She made three birdies on the par-3 eighth, par-4 15th and par-5 17th holes to go with two bogeys. Sophomore Annabel Wilson tied for 57th (+11, 227), shooting a 5-over 77 on Wednesday. She made a birdie on the par-4 fifth, three bogeys and a triple. Junior Simar Singh and sophomore Yuki Yoshihara each tied for 72nd (+14, 230). Yoshihara shot a 2-over 74 in her final round, recording three birdies on the par-4 fifth and 10th holes and par-5 ninth, three bogeys and a double. Singh made two birdies on the par-4 fifth and par-3 12th holes and six bogeys in a 4-over 76.
