USC Women’s Rowing to Compete at Pac-12 Championships

LOS ANGELES--The USC women's rowing team will travel to Northern California to compete in the Pac-12 Championships this Sunday (May 16) at Lake Natoma in Gold River, Calif. 
 
The Women of Troy must bring their A-game as they are set to race against a challenging group of teams. Five of the seven Pac-12 crews are ranked in the most recent Pocock/CRCA Top 20 Poll. The reigning national champion Washington tops the poll at No. 1 with Stanford close behind at No. 4 Cal holds the No. 8 position, while Oregon State is No. 18 and Washington State is No. 19. USC and UCLA both received votes in the Pocock/CRCA Poll. 
 
The women's regatta will begin at 9:15 a.m. PT with the Novice race and the Third Varsity Eight Race at 9:45 a.m. PT. The Trojans will not be entering a boat in either of these races. USC will first hit the water at 10:15 a.m. PT for the Varsity Four race followed by the Second Varsity Eight at 10: 45 a.m. PT. The Varsity Eight will close out the morning of competition at 11:15 a.m. PT.
 
The Pac-12 champion shall be determined by a point system. Placement in each race has a pre-determined number of points that will be awarded to the respective finisher (the women's Novice race will not be scored and does not factor into the team championship scoring). The team with the most points if crowned the Pac-12 Champion. For the full point system, see the chart below.
 
Should there be a tie, the finish in the women's varsity eight will be utilized as a tiebreaker.
 
In 2019, the Women of Troy placed sixth at the Pac-12 Championships. The Varsity 8+ placed fourth, while the Second Varsity 8+ and Varsity 4+ placed seventh. There was not a Pac-12 Championship event in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
