Baseball Welcomes Oregon for Series at Lindquist Field

May 13, 2021

Game 41-43: Utah (14-26, 5-16) vs. Oregon (30-11, 14-7)
Friday, May 14-Sunday, May 16
6 p.m. | 4 p.m. | 11 a.m.
Lindquist Field | Ogden, Utah

FIRST PITCH
Utah welcomes the Oregon Ducks to Lindquist Field in Ogden this weekend for a three-game series.

The Utes carry a four game win streak into the series after sweeping the Northern Colorado Bears as well as beating Utah Valley in a midweek game.

Oregon comes in with a 30-11 record overall and 14-7 record in the Pac-12. They're currently in second in the Pac-12 after sweeping Washington last weekend.

This is the second last home series Utah has this season.

SWEEP OVER NORTHERN COLORADO
Utah played its first three games at Lindquist Field in Ogden and got their first sweep of the season over Northern Colorado.

Utah hit .410 in the series scoring 31 runs total with 13 doubles and three home runs.

The pitching staff had an ERA of .333 and struck out 41 batters. The ERA is a season low and the strikeouts is a season high in any series for Utah this season.

It was the first sweep for Utah since 2017 when they swept Arizona State to end the season.

HAVOC ON THE BASES
When Jaylon McLaughlin gets on base, he's always a threat to get a steal. He's second in the Pac-12 with 21 stolen bases going 21-25 on the season.

McLaughlin leads the team with 30 runs and in Utah's 14 wins, he has scored a run in 13 of them.

He has currently scored a run in 11 of the last 13 games.

RELOCATING NINE HOME GAMES
Utah's baseball program will relocate nine home games of the 2021 season to Lindquist Field in Ogden, beginning with the May 8-10 series against Northern Colorado. After this weekend's home series against Arizona State, Friday-Sunday, the only Utah baseball game to be played at Smith's Ballpark will be the May 12 matchup with Utah Valley.

The move became necessary because of the primary tenancy of the Salt Lake Bees at Smith's Ballpark, and the difficulty in scheduling games at optimal times on the same day due to new COVID-19 protocols introduced for Minor League Baseball organizations. The customary turnaround time between a Utah baseball game and a Salt Lake Bees game has increased to allow for proper cleaning and sanitizing of facilities, making it more difficult to play two games in one day after the Bees begin their 2021 home season on May 6.

The Utes' first game at Lindquist Field will be Saturday, May 8, against Northern Colorado. In addition to the Northern Colorado series, Utah will have two more series in Ogden against Oregon (May 14-16) and USC (May 27-29).

UP NEXT
Utah will play its final midweek of the season against BYU in Provo on Tuesday, May 18 at 6 p.m.
