Makena Smith Notched Her Eighth Home Run Of The Season On Friday

BERKELEY - Makena Smith blasted a home run to left, but that was all the scoring the California softball team garnered in Game 1 of Friday's doubleheader as No. 11 Oregon defeated the Golden Bears, 4-1, from Levine-Fricke Field.

Cal fell to 17-18, 3-10 on the year.

Oregon scored a run in each of the first two innings, the first on an error and the second on an RBI ground out. The Ducks increased their lead later with an RBI single and solo home run in the top of the sixth.

Smith got one run back with her solo shot in the bottom of the sixth. It was her team-leading eighth home run of the season.

Sona Halajian took the loss, but only gave up one earned run in three and a third innings of work.

Alexis Bishop and D'Asha Saiki picked up Cal's other two hits in Game 1.
