Cal Held Senior Day Prior To Saturday's Game

BERKELEY - After honoring its six seniors prior to the start of Saturday's regular season finale, the California softball team lost to No. 11 Oregon, 3-1, from Levine-Fricke Field.

The Golden Bears finished the 2021 campaign with an overall record of 17-20 and a Pac-12 record of 3-11.

The six Bears honored during the Senior Day ceremony were  Mikayla Coelho, Lauren Espalin, Cameron Kondo, Sabrina Nunez, Chloe Romero and Karlee Sparacino.

After Oregon took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, the Bears answered in the bottom of the first. Makena Smith notched her first of two singles on the day and Coelho followed suit with a walk. After the Bears moved into scoring position, Smith scored on a throwing error by the Duck third baseman to tie the game.

Oregon tacked on two more in the top of the second on a bases loaded walk and a sacrifice fly for all the scoring in the game.

Pitching in the circle for the final time in the Blue and Gold, Romero garnered her sixth complete game of the season. She settled down after allowing three runs in the first two innings and retired 10 straight at one point. She snagged a line drive for her final put out, as well. Romero allowed two earned runs with one walk and only four hits.

Sparacino slapped a single to right in her final collegiate at-bat, and Coelho picked up the Bears' fourth hit of the day.
