Season Ends in Semis

LOS ANGELES - No. 2 Stanford's season came to an end on Saturday in the semifinals of the NCAA Championship, as the Cardinal mounted an early comeback but couldn't overcome No. 3 UCLA, losing 9-7.

The Bruins wasted no time in earning the early advantage, surging to a 3-0 lead under three minutes into the game. Hannah Constandse stopped the bleeding, but UCLA was strong on both ends, holding a 4-1 edge after the first period.

Stanford had no interest in quitting, however, and responded with three straight. Skyler Jones netted one for the Card in the second period, before Chloe Harbilas took matters into her own hands, scoring twice in a matter of 30 seconds to even things up at 4-4. Neither team could break through again before the half.

The Cardinal took its first lead of the day in the third period after Jewel Roemer scored from distance, and again put Stanford ahead 6-5.

The tide would turn back in favor of the Bruins though, as goalkeeper Jahmea Bent was up to task in the cage and UCLA was able to capitalize enough on offense. A 4-0 run made the game 9-6, and Stanford's offense couldn't find a way to claw back late, eventually falling 9-7.
