Fetherstonhaugh Races to New School Record in 5K on Final Day of Pac-12s
LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Grace Fetherstonhaugh finished off the Pac-12 Championships in style by setting a new school record in the 5K on Sunday to lead the Oregon State track and field team.
The Beavers finished 10th with 21 team points. Host school USC won the women's team title with 162.50 points, while Oregon (151) finished second and Arizona State (77) took third.
"We really competed hard and that's becoming a hallmark of this team," said head coach Louie Quintana. "Like I said, points will come. If you look at what we did on the surface, you can really see the growth of our team. It was nice to see this group move up in the standings and beat another team. I can see the hunger in their eyes. They are excited to take their shot next spring."
Fetherstonhaugh fell just short of scoring in the 5K, finishing ninth, as she set a new school record with a time of 15:58.93.
OSU had three other Beavers – Kaylee Mitchell, Audrey Lookner, and Batya Beard – all place in the top-15 in the 5K. Mitchell clocked in at 16:17.70 for 12th, while Lookner followed suit in 13th with a time of 16:18.29. Beard capped off her Pac-12 performance with a 15th-place finish in 16:22.15.
Lindsay McShane came up just a spot back of scoring in the discus with a throw of 48.56m to place ninth.
Next up: Oregon State will be off for a week before traveling to College Station, Texas for the NCAA West Preliminaries May 27-29.
