Bruins Move Up on Day Two at NCAA Championships

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - The Bruins moved up three spots on Saturday at the NCAA Championships, as they sit in a tie for 12th after 36 holes at Grayhawk Golf Club.

UCLA shot a 5-over 293 in its second round, nine strokes better than the opening round, and is at 19-over 595. The top 15 teams after Sunday's play advance to Monday's final round. The Bruins hold a five-stroke lead over 14th-place Michigan and South Carolina (+24, 600).

Sophomore Emma Spitz is the top Bruin, sitting in fourth place at 2-under 142 following a 2-under 70 on Saturday. She made seven birdies on the par-4 second, ninth and 17th holes, par-5 fourth, seventh and 11th and par-3 eighth to go with five bogeys.

Sophomore Annabel Wilson shot an even-par 72 and is tied for 22nd (+2, 146). She posted three birdies on the par-5 fourth and seventh holes and the par-4 10th, adding a bogey and a double. Sophomore Emilie Paltrinieri shot a 1-over 73 in round two on four birdies on the par-4 second and 17th holes, par-5 fourth and par-3 13th, two bogeys and a triple. Sophomore Yuki Yoshihara (T-116, +13, 157) posted a birdie on the par-5 18th, five bogeys and a double in a 6-over 78. Junior Simar Singh (T-120, +14, 158) made three birdies on the par-4 second and 14th holes and par-5 seventh, eight bogeys and a quad in a 9-over 81.

Round three for the Bruins starts at 11:30 a.m. off the first tee in the order of Paltrinieri, Singh, Yoshihara, Wilson and Spitz. Live scoring will be available here.
