ORLANDO, Fl. – No. 45 Gustaf Strom will represent Arizona in the NCAA Singles Championship in the first round against the fourth-seeded Valentin Vacherot from Texas A&M University.
Strom made an immediate impact at Arizona as a freshman while never playing below court three. Currently tied for third in program history for singles wins in a spring season with 18, Strom looks to tie teammate Filip Malbasic who holds the record. Strom also earned five ranked wins throughout the season including a win over No. 14 Riley Smith.
The freshman won numerous awards in his first season as a Wildcat. After helping the team reach their first third round bid in the NCAA Tournament, Strom was named Pac-12 Freshman/Newcomer of the Year as well as First Team All-Conference.
No. 4 Valentin Vacherot helped lead his team to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament before falling to No. 1 Florida. Vacherot had 21 wins on the season prior to the tournament and his at-large selection to the singles tournament. He is ranked No. 5 in the ITA Singles Ranking.
The match will take place on Sunday, May 23 at 10:30 a.m. MST. The match will be streamed on the TennisOne app.
