No. 4 Vacherot Knocks Off Strom

ORLANDO, Fla. - Gustaf Strom fell to fourth-seeded Val Vacherot in three sets in the first round of the NCAA Singles Tournament.

Strom started the match hot with a 6-2 first set victory. The freshman continued to push the momentum until he was up 5-2 in the second set. Vacherot then fought his way through three match points to win the second set with a 7-5 score. The Texas A&M senior finished the match in the third set to win the match with a 6-3 score.

The freshman standout was the second straight selection to the NCAA singles championship for Arizona and is only the second Wildcat to play in the singles championships since 2006. Strom finishes the season with 18 singles wins and five of them coming against ranked opponents. In a record-setting season for Arizona, Strom played in the No. 1 spot for every postseason match.
