USC's Salma Ewing Falls in NCAA First Round

ORLANDO, Fla.--Junior Salma Ewing wrapped up her 2021 season with a loss in the First Round of the NCAA Singles Championships at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla. today (May 23).
 
In her First Round match, No. 42 ranked Ewing lost 6-2, 6-3, to No. 1 ranked (and No. 2 seeded) Estela Perez-Somarriba of Miami. 
 
Salma Ewing closes out the 2021 season with a 15-6 record in singles. She earned placement on the All-Pac-12 First Team, and had a season highlighted by eight victories over nationally ranked opponents, predominately playing from the No. 1 position. Before the NCAA Singles Tournament, Ewing upset the No. 6 player in the nation, NC State's Anna Rogers, in USC's Round of 16 match in the 2021 NCAA Team Tournament.
