Spitz Named WGCA First Team All-American

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - For the second year in a row, sophomore Emma Spitz was named a WGCA First Team All-American, as announced on Wednesday. 

Spitz, one of 10 finalists for the ANNIKA Award and an All-Pac-12 Conference First Team selection, finished the season with a runner-up showing at the NCAA Championship. She was under par in her final three rounds, including a 4-under 68 in the final round, to finish at 7-under 281. Spitz was a combined 15-under in her last two tournaments of the season, winning the NCAA Louisville Regional (-8, 208). She closed with a 5-under 67 and a 4-under 68 to win by five strokes. It was the second victory of Spitz's career and first solo win.

Spitz was the top finisher for the Bruins in seven of nine events, with all of those being in the Top 4. She was second at the Sun Devil Winter Classic (-6, 210) thanks to three under-par rounds, including an opening, 3-under 69. Spitz tied for second at the Lamkin Invitational (-1, 215), shooting a pair of 2-under 70s, tied for third at The Match in the Desert (E, 144) and the Silverado Showdown (-2, 214) and was solo fourth at the Bruin Wave Invitational (+7, 223). Spitz also tied for third at the Augusta National Women's Amateur and tied for 10th at the Pac-12 Championship (+1, 214), opening with a pair of 3-under 68s. She posted a 71.6 scoring average, with 16 of her 27 rounds being under par, including six in the 60s.
