Rowing's Norris Earns First Career All-Pac-12 Selection
SAN FRANCISCO – Washington State rowing senior Jessica Norris has been named to the 2021 All-Pac-12 rowing team, the conference office announced Thursday, May 27.
Norris, who is a Havelock, New Zealand native, concluded her third full season with the Cougars this spring, and fourth overall as the 2019-20 season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. She competed in all but one regatta in the first varsity eight boat this spring, as she helped Washington State earn an at-large bid into the 2021 NCAA Rowing Championship. WSU captured the Winchell Cup back on March 20 at Oregon State, with Norris anchoring the stroke position. The senior also helped Washington State finish fifth at the Pac-12 Championship, as she sat in the six-seat with the first varsity eight.
It is the first All-Pac selection for Norris. The New Zealand native began her WSU career with the second varsity eight and varsity four back during the 2017-18 season. She has helped Washington State to a pair of Fawley Cup wins over Gonzaga and helped the second varsity eight boat finish fourth at the 2019 NCAA Championships.
Members of the All-Conference rowing teams are based upon each institution's finish in the Varsity 8 race at the Pac-12 Championships, which were held on Lake Natoma in Gold River, Calif. The Conference champion provides four members of the All-Conference team, the second-place crew provides three members, and the third-place finisher provides two. All other participating crews receive one selection each.
