Bruins Blank Virginia Tech to Force Super Game 3
LOS ANGELES - Sophomore Megan Faraimo struck out 11 in seven shutout innings, giving up just one hit and two walks, while junior Aaliyah Jordan and freshman Maya Brady both hit solo home runs, as the second-ranked Bruins claimed a 2-0 victory over Virginia Tech on Friday at Easton Stadium.
UCLA (45-5) forces game three of the Los Angeles Super Regional, which will be Saturday at 6:30 p.m. on ESPN2. Virginia Tech falls to 37-14.
Faraimo (19-3) struck out the side in the second inning and two apiece in the first and sixth, registering at least one in every frame. She recorded 1-2-3 innings in the second, third, fifth and seventh.
The Bruins, who had just four hits, were the visiting team and got on the board in the top of the second. With one out, Brady launched her 12th home run of the season to right-center to put UCLA on top.
In the third, Jordan led off with her eighth home run of the season to right-center to make it 2-0.
The only base runners allowed by Faraimo came on a one-out walk in the first, a leadoff infield single in the fourth and a two-out free pass in the sixth.
