Bullard Breaks Out, Wildcats Fall 11-9

May 28, 2021

TUCSON, Ariz. — A career night from third baseman Tony Bullard was not enough to lift the Arizona Wildcats (39-15) to a victory over the Dixie State Trailblazers (24-31) on Friday night at Hi Corbett Field. The visiting Trailblazers ultimately came away with an 11-9 win to even the series.

Elsewhere around the Pac-12 the California Golden Bears defeated the Oregon Ducks, 10-3, to secure the outright Pac-12 Championship for Arizona. The Wildcats finished their conference slate with a record of 21-9 that nobody will be able to match. This marks the Wildcats first outright Pac-10/12 Championship since 1992 and their 10th conference championship overall.

Bullard posted the best performance of his Arizona career on Friday night, finishing the game going 3-for-4 with two runs scored, one double, a solo home run, a grand slam home run, and a double. His third-inning grand slam was Arizona's first since Justin Wylie smacked one on May 17, 2019 at Penn State. It was also the first multi-home run outing of Bullard's collegiate career.

Designated hitter Jacob Berry also blasted a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth, his 15th long ball of the season.
