Ihemeje, Griffith Qualify; Day Three Postponed

May 28, 2021

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The No. 2 Oregon men's track and field team added two more national qualifiers on day three of the NCAA West Preliminary before inclement weather halted competition. Just before the delay, the Ducks got qualifying performances from Emmanuel Ihemeje and Isaiah Griffith in the triple jump. The updated schedule is set to begin Saturday at 9:30 a.m. (PT) with the men's 4x100-meter relay; full schedule below.

Advancing to the NCAA Championships

Emmanuel Ihemeje – triple jump
Dalton Rasmussen – javelin
Max Vollmer – decathlon
WOMEN

The Ducks' first national qualifiers of the day came from Ihemeje and Griffith in the triple jump. On his first—and only—attempt, Ihemeje got out to 16.98m/55-8.5 to surpass and improve on his own school record. The mark is also the E.B. Cushing Stadium facility record and stands as the No. 3 jump in the NCAA this season.

Griffith qualified with a season best of 16.20m/53-1.75 in the second round of flight one. He led through two flights and finished fifth overall. Griffith's mark puts him at No. 6 on the UO top-10 list. This will be his second NCAA appearance and first with the Ducks having previously qualified in 2017 with Nebraska.

Ihmeje and Griffith are the UO men's first NCAA qualifiers in the triple jump since the 2015 season (Nate Moore).

The meet entered the weather delay at approximately 3:15 p.m. (PT) before the start of running events.

Notable: Lucas Ribeiro notched a personal best of 55.12m/180-10 to finish 18th overall from the first flight of the discus … Ben Milligan cleared 2.16m/7-1 but finished 13th in the high jump, just missing a national spot.
