COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Thunder and lightning postponed all the running events on day three of the NCAA West Preliminaries at Texas A&M, but the day was far from a wash out for the Huskies, as sophomore Elijah Mason qualified for the final site in the discus before the rains came.
Today was to be the final day of competition on the men's side, with the women's event finishing on Saturday. But the lightning delay began just when the first running event was set to go, and the skies never cleared over E.B. Cushing Stadium. A revised Saturday schedule is still being formulated.
One thing's for sure, Pac-12 Champion Elijah Mason will get his second crack at the NCAA Championships as he made it through with flying colors in the discus. Mason, who was seventh at the 2019 NCAA Outdoor meet, will look to get back on the podium, this time in Eugene. He had a foul on his first attempt but then went 196-10 on his second, moving up to second-place where he would finish.
Jonah Wilson, who qualified on Wednesday in the shot put, was looking to join Mason in the discus as well. But Wilson's best of 180-8 today was not enough, as he settled for 19th-place and will concentrate on the shot in Oregon.
