LOS ANGELES – Ismail Turner from UCLA Track & Field has been selected the UCLA Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by Ready, earning honors for May 25 – May 31.
Turner earns his first-career Student-Athlete of the Week award after securing NCAA Championship qualification in the West Prelims last week. The San Diego native ran a lifetime-best time of 45.64 in the final heats at Regionals to finish 10th overall and punch his ticket to Eugene. Turner is now tied for 10th on UCLA's all-time 400m list and ran the fastest time by a Bruin in the event since 2004.
Turner also extended his streak of four-straight PRs in the 400m, as he ran a then-lifetime-best time of 46.05 to qualify for the final heats ahead of his sub-46 effort. He has shaved over a second off his season-opening time of 46.83, which he set back at the Bob Larsen Track Meet back in March.
The Bruins will conclude their 2021 outdoor season at the NCAA Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. The four-day competition kicks off on Wednesday, June 9.
